Luckily, North Birmingham, AL is brimming with free historic sites, parks, and so much more! Below is a list of five free things to do in North Birmingham, AL that are also safe to do during COVID-19.





1. Birmingham Botanical Gardens

This 67.5-acre garden is beautiful! The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are always free and open 365 days a year. The gardens house many diverse plants, making it the 5th highest in biodiversity in the U.S.! Learn more at their website.






2. Ruffner Mountain Reserve

Trails are open dusk to dawn, 365 days a year

Nature Center is open Tues-Sat 9:00AM-4:00PM, Sun 1:00PM-4:00PM

Ruffner Mountain is home to over fourteen miles of trails, ranging in difficulties. You can also find old mining sites throughout the reserve. Ruffner Mountain Reserve also has a Nature Center, where you and your children can learn about the different native species of the area! Find more here.




3. Birmingham Museum of Art

4. Kelly Ingram Park

Kelly Ingram Park is 4-acres and located in the Civil Rights District of Birmingham, AL. Walk through the park and learn about protests and other important events of the Civil Rights Movement that occurred in Birmingham, AL through statues and plaques. 5. Red Mountain Park

Red Mountain Park in Birmingham, AL consists of 1,200 acres along the Red Mountain Ridge. Take the family to enjoy over fifteen miles of trails, a wonderful dog park, and historic mining sites!
